Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Backbone Built LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, stores, and protects information when you use the Day One Dad mobile application (the "App"). Day One Dad is intended for adult parents and caregivers.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at support@dayonedad.app.
1. AI Coach and Third-Party AI Sharing
Day One Dad includes an optional AI Coach feature. The AI Coach uses a third-party artificial intelligence provider, Anthropic, to generate responses.
What is sent to Anthropic. When you use the AI Coach, we transmit the message you type into the Coach and limited relevant context from your Day One Dad profile so the Coach can generate a personalized response. This context may include your first name; your baby's age or date of birth; your baby's name if stored in your profile or included in your message; whether you have a single baby or multiples; your baby's gender, birth type, feeding method, and first-child status; and other profile details you provided that are relevant to the question. If you include personal information in your Coach message, that information will also be sent as part of the message.
What is not sent to Anthropic for Coach responses. We do not send your email address, password, payment-card information, or Apple payment details to Anthropic. We also do not sell your personal information.
Why this information is sent. We send this information to Anthropic only to operate the AI Coach feature, generate the response you requested, maintain safety and security, troubleshoot the feature, and improve the reliability of the App.
Your permission. Before the App shares your personal information with Anthropic for the AI Coach, the App asks for your explicit permission. If you do not give permission, you may continue using other App features, but the AI Coach will not be available. You may revoke your permission at any time using the "AI Coach data sharing" control in the Me tab of the App, by contacting us at support@dayonedad.app, or by deleting your account.
Third-party protection. We require service providers that process personal information for Day One Dad, including Anthropic, to provide the same or equal protection for user data as described in this Privacy Policy and as required by applicable App Store requirements and privacy law.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the information needed to provide, personalize, secure, and improve the App. Depending on how you use the App, we may collect the following:
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are stored securely in hashed form; we do not store your password in plain text. This information is used to sign you in and sync your data.
Profile and family information. During setup and use, you may provide information such as your name or nickname, your baby's name, your baby's date of birth, whether this is your first child, whether you have a single baby or multiples, your baby's gender, birth type, feeding method, and whether you are under professional feeding guidance. This information personalizes the App's guidance.
Dad HQ check-in data. If you use Dad HQ features, we store the information you log there, such as energy, stress, patience, connection, sleep, responsibilities you choose to own, and small wins or "reps" you log.
Coach conversations and messages. If you use the AI Coach, we collect the messages you send and the AI-generated responses so we can provide the Coach feature and maintain your conversation experience.
Subscription and purchase information. If you start a trial or subscription, we may receive subscription status, product identifier, renewal status, purchase dates, cancellation status, and similar transaction-related information from Apple and/or our subscription-management provider. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number.
Technical and usage information. We and our service providers may automatically receive limited technical information necessary to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the App, such as device, app, connection, diagnostic, and usage information.
Advertising and measurement identifiers. To measure the performance of our advertising and understand how people discover the App, we and our advertising partners may collect a device or advertising identifier (such as Apple's Identifier for Advertisers) and limited app-activity events (such as app installs and when a subscription or free trial begins). On Apple devices, this identifier is only used for advertising measurement if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. See Section 5 for details on how this data is shared, and Section 7 for how to control it.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Collect Information
We collect information in the following ways:
- Directly from you when you create an account, complete onboarding, update your profile, use Dad HQ, or send messages to the AI Coach;
- Automatically through the App when your device communicates with our servers or service providers to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the App;
- From Apple and subscription-service providers when you start, manage, renew, cancel, or restore a trial or subscription.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, personalize, and improve the App's features and guidance;
- Create, authenticate, and maintain your account;
- Sync your data across devices;
- Match guidance to your baby's age, stage, and family profile;
- Operate the AI Coach, including transmitting your Coach messages and relevant profile context to Anthropic as described above;
- Provide Dad HQ check-ins, plans, ownership tools, and related features;
- Process, verify, manage, and restore trials and subscriptions;
- Provide customer support and respond to privacy requests;
- Maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the App;
- Measure the performance of our advertising, understand how people discover the App, and improve our marketing, using advertising and measurement identifiers as described in Sections 2 and 5, subject to your App Tracking Transparency choice;
- Comply with legal, tax, accounting, security, and App Store obligations.
5. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
We use trusted third-party service providers to operate the App. These providers process personal information only as needed to provide services to us, and we require them to provide the same or equal protection for user data as described in this Privacy Policy and as required by applicable requirements.
Supabase — provides authentication, database, and data-storage infrastructure. Your account and App data are stored using Supabase with access controls designed to restrict your data to your account.
Anthropic — powers the AI Coach feature. When you use the Coach and give permission, we send your Coach message and limited relevant profile context to Anthropic so Anthropic can generate a response.
Apple — processes App Store downloads, trials, subscriptions, renewals, cancellations, and payments. Apple does not provide us your full payment-card information.
RevenueCat — if enabled in the App, helps us manage subscription status, trials, purchase verification, renewal status, restore purchases, and related subscription events.
Meta (Facebook). We use advertising and analytics tools provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. (including the Facebook SDK) to measure the performance of our advertising and to understand how people discover and use the App. Through these tools, we may share a device or advertising identifier and limited app-activity events (such as app installs and when a subscription or free trial begins) with Meta for advertising measurement and attribution. On Apple devices, this sharing occurs for advertising purposes only if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Meta's handling of this information is governed by Meta's own data policies. You can learn more at https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy/.
We do not sell your personal information. Aside from the advertising measurement described above, we do not share your personal information with third-party advertisers.
6. How Your Information Is Stored and Protected
Your data is stored using industry-standard infrastructure and security measures, including encrypted transmission and account-based access controls. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Choices and Rights
AI Coach permission. You can choose whether to allow Day One Dad to share your Coach messages and relevant profile context with Anthropic for the AI Coach. If you do not allow this sharing, the AI Coach will not be available, but you may still use other App features. You may revoke permission at any time using the "AI Coach data sharing" control in the Me tab of the App, by contacting us, or by deleting your account.
Advertising and tracking. On Apple devices, the App uses advertising and measurement identifiers only if you allow tracking through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, or if you later turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track" (or the app-specific tracking permission) in your device's Settings, we will not use the advertising identifier to track you for advertising, and the App will continue to work normally. You can also reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings at any time.
Access and update. You can view and update much of your profile information directly in the App.
Account deletion. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from within the App. When you delete your account, we delete your account and the personal data associated with it from our systems, subject to limited retention where required for legal, security, accounting, dispute-resolution, or App Store compliance purposes. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
Contact us. For any privacy request or question, email support@dayonedad.app.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable laws, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information. We will honor such requests as required by law.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for use by adults, not by children. The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Information about a baby, such as name and date of birth, is provided by you, the adult user, to personalize your experience and is treated as part of your account data. If you believe a child has provided us personal information directly, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete the associated personal data as described above, subject to limited retention where required for legal, accounting, security, dispute-resolution, or App Store compliance purposes.
10. International Users
We operate the App from the United States, and your information may be processed and stored in the United States and in other locations where our service providers operate. If you use the App from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other jurisdictions.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes may be communicated within the App or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
